FAQ

What does PVD mean?

This abbreviation stands for Physical Vapor Deposition.

Physical vapor deposition (PVD) is a process for generating a metal vapor that can be deposited on materials (substrate) as a thin, strongly adherent pure metal or alloy layer. The process is carried out in a vacuum chamber at high vacuum (10-6 Torr). Different processes are used depending on the requirements.

How long does a coating take?

Between one minute (e.g. coating of 12cm plastic sheets with automated feeding) and several hours (e.g. many workpieces requiring multilayer coating and explicit plasma pre-cleaning for a noble surface).

What can you coat?

Physical vapor deposition coatings are used in many areas of industry.

Many different materials can be coated using PVD technology:

  • Metals
  • Alloys
  • Plastics
  • Ceramics
  • Glass

In tool and mold making and in the field of machining, the cutting materials for the tools are coated. Furthermore, the dies in the coin industry are coated, on the one hand for a longer service life, and on the other hand to replace galvanic chrome plating.

In microelectronics, PVD coatings are used to create metal or (organic) semiconductor layers. Data carriers such as hard disks, CDs and BlueRays are also coated with PVD protective layers.

As surface and wear protection – e.g. polyethylene films of chip bags contain a thin PVD layer as a vapor barrier, or architectural glass and displays are also coated with protective layers.

Is it possible to rent a machine?

As a rule, we build PVD systems according to customer-specific specifications. However, we also have demonstration systems that we are happy to offer you.

Please ask us!

Why should I buy a machine from you?

INORCOAT is a young company that wants to enable better, more efficient, more cost-effective and mass-market PVD processes with their innovative PVD solutions.

  • A team with more than 40 years of experience in the PVD field
  • Several exclusive patents
  • From conception, design and production, all from one source
  • Sophisticated machines
  • Short setup times
  • Long tool life
  • Reproducibility

  • One phone number for everything
  • We work together with the customer to create his solution, from development to acceptance by the end customer
  • Production is carried out according to strict quality standards
  • Very good contacts with European universities and research centers

Can I coat free-form parts?

Yes, the INORCOAT team has worked intensively on numerous problems over the last 40 years. Thanks to sophisticated technology, our PVD coating systems can be equipped with multiple magnetron sputtering and linear ion sources that optimally meet the requirements of the respective application areas.

How time-consuming is the setup?

It depends on your product. The design of our PVD systems was created from the customer’s point of view. Intuitive software, ergonomic operation, very accessible workspace are your advantage.

The setup for a product change for a new coating system usually consists of a target change and shield change. In addition, it may be necessary to change the substrate holder. The protective shields are all fixed in the machine without screw connections. A second set of shields and substrate holders for products that have already been considered is usually delivered with the machine.

Can the placement of the equipment be automated?

Yes, we offer standard batch PVD systems that can be configured modularly to meet the needs of your application.

We also offer customized PVD solutions. From the planning phase to testing under production conditions, we design a customized PVD solution in close cooperation with you.

How long does the training take?

For standard applications, one day.

What colors can I create?

  • Gold (in different tones)
  • Blue (in different tones)
  • Violet (in different tones)
  • Chamapagne (in different tones)
  • Copper
  • Bronze
  • Chrome
  • Black

Other colors available on request!

Do you also develop coatings for us?

Yes. The INORCOAT PVD development lab works with state-of-the-art PVD systems, measurement and control systems to develop customized solutions. In close cooperation with you, we perform test coatings on your material samples and prototypes, and determine the perfect PVD configuration for your application with controlled test series.

Do you do contract coating?

Yes!

In our laboratory we run test series in advance to meet your requirements. With our modern and flexible on-site PVD equipment, we offer medium to high volume production for a variety of products and applications.

What about the service? In production it is important that the machine runs!

Of course, we also offer comprehensive service for our PVD coating systems in the field. Talk to us about our service packages!

What kind of fixture do I need for my parts?

It all depends on your application. Our long experience allows us to offer you a whole range of standard solutions. If this does not fit, we will develop the device that best suits your needs!

Do you have used machines?

As a rule, we build PVD systems according to customer-specific specifications. However, we also have demonstration systems that we are happy to offer you.

Please ask us!

How long is the delivery time?

For standard batch systems, the delivery time is currently somewhat longer than desired due to Corona. However, we usually manage it within 24 – 32 weeks.
